Sartel is prescribed for the management of essential hypertension, which refers to high blood pressure that occurs at rest and lacks a clear identifiable cause. While there typically aren't additional symptoms, elevated blood pressure heightens the likelihood of cardiovascular diseases and, if left unmanaged, can lead to kidney damage, strokes, heart attacks, and vision loss. Sartel is effective in bringing blood pressure down to normal resting levels, thus enhancing life expectancy and minimizing the risk of cardiovascular problems and damage to vital organs. Sartel may be taken alone as a standalone treatment or in conjunction with other antihypertensive medications such as diuretics (water pills).

Sartel contains the active ingredient Telmisartan, which is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) utilized for treating hypertension and heart failure.

You should consume Sartel whole with a full glass of water, either with or without food, once daily at the same time each day. The dosage will depend on your specific condition and the advice of your healthcare provider. Blood pressure will begin to lower within 2 hours after taking Sartel, though it may take up to 4 weeks for it to reach its full effectiveness in managing blood pressure. Sartel aids in controlling blood pressure but does not remedy it, so it's essential to continue taking your Sartel as prescribed by your doctor to maintain normal blood pressure levels.

Sartel features telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), which functions by inhibiting the interaction of the hormone angiotensin II with its receptor in various tissues, including smooth muscle in blood vessels and kidney cells. Angiotensin II is a hormone produced naturally that plays several roles in blood pressure regulation and maintaining fluid equilibrium, which includes managing the volume of water filtered out of blood by the kidneys. Angiotensin II prompts the kidneys to retain salt (sodium and potassium) and water and causes the constriction (narrowing) of blood vessels; this results in increased blood volume and decreased vessel volume, which in turn raises blood pressure. Telmisartan in Sartel blocks angiotensin II from binding to its receptor, thereby preventing blood pressure-raising effects and leading to the dilation (widening) of blood vessels and an increased amount of salt and water excreted by the kidneys, subsequently lowering blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure lessens the burden on the heart, thereby diminishing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Blood pressure reduction occurs within 2 hours after taking Sartel and lasts for 24 hours, with the most significant reduction typically reached within 4 weeks.

The most frequently reported side effects associated with Sartel include dizziness, fatigue, palpitations, upper respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis or pharyngitis, cough, and elevated blood potassium levels.

You should avoid using Sartel if you: have an allergy to telmisartan or any of the components in Sartel; are pregnant or breastfeeding, as telmisartan may harm a developing fetus; have kidney or liver diseases; are on medications that may interact with Sartel, including other antihypertensive drugs like ACE inhibitors, diuretics such as furosemide, potassium-sparing diuretics like spironolactone, potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium, lithium for mood disorders, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Store your Sartel in a cool, dry place below 25°C.
